It was a USPS Jeep too, so different gearing.
Gonna replace a couple gaskets, the serpentine belt and a little work on the rear end.
I brought a friend who knows XJs to come check it out with me first he said walk away, but then we went back. I'll write a decent article about this once I pick it and have pictures.

I'll have to check, but I may have a FSM for 95, although it may be 93&96. I have a 99, and the FSM for that. Must have!
Also, AW4 or AX15?
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:29 |

Awesome, lookin' forward to it.

For now. As time and my wallet allows, the modifications will happen. Yours looks awesome!
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:35 |

I'll be sure to get one.
AW4, not complaining. Shifted through the gears fine.

Thanks

Usps? What gears are you saying it has? I heard rumors rhd xjs had front 44s till I looked at one and was a 30. Didn't buy it but I want one still.

TRIPLE 4!
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:39 |
|
Great rig! I' ve had 4 of them over the years and the only problem ever with any of them was an oil pressure sensor went out on the 99. They all had over 100k when I bought them.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:42 |

Sadly it's not a right hand drive. 4.10 gearing.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:42 |
|
This one has 170k
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:44 |
|
Yeah sorry, probably should have just said pictures.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:45 |
|
4.10 gears come from a 4cyl. Did the owner swap them? That's odd, never heard of that. Is the spedo gear correct? Interesting. There should be a tag on front or rear diff cover that'll give ratio.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:47 |
|
Yeah I had to look that up. On jeepforum it says "4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package." Maybe this one has that package?
![]() 08/16/2014 at 19:54 |
|
Have no fear the 4.0L I6 is one of the most bulletproof engines ever made. When I was a Jeep Forum member (a decade ago) there were already dozens with 300k miles on them with just regular oil changes. They are still really popular in the midwest as winter beaters and hold their value VERY well.

That's where I am currently. Finding one that was cheap and wasn't modified was pretty difficult.
![]() 08/16/2014 at 20:04 |

maybe if it has the front tcase and gas skid.
Have a 2" hitch? That has come in handy so many times not only as a recovery point, also towing and for a hitch basket. That'd also be a good buy, but might as well install a gas skid at the same time.
Also be very aware of when you change out the rear shocks the upper bolts will break, no matter what, be prepared.

Already have to change those out.

Welcome from a fellow XJ-owner. I'm on my second term now (started with a 2000, now I have a 98). cherokeeforum.com has a ton of info.

I had no idea there were so many XJ owners here. I made an account there years ago when I first started my XJ hunt. Let's see if I don't remember my log in.
